Uribarri, The Orlando Sentinel, Fla.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News Nov. 19--SEMINOLE COUNTY Seminole County commissioners on Tuesday unanimously passed a 1-cent tax on tourism in the county. The hotel bed tax will fund improvements to county-owned parks and sports venues, officials said. Hoteliers expressed concerns about the tax, and at least one questioned whether park improvements would draw more tourism. Commissioner Brenda Carey, who ultimately supported the tax, questioned whether it would make hotels less competitive. County Economic Development Director Bill McDermott responded that while total tourism taxes would rise to 4 percent, nearby counties tax as high as 6 percent. ----- To see more of The Orlando Sentinel or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.OrlandoSentinel.com.
